Gol Stave Church, Oslo, Norway. This church was originally from in Gol municipality, Hallingda, and has been dated to 1212. The municipality built a new church around 1880, and the decision was made to demolish the old stave church. It was acquired by King Oscar II, who financed its restoration and relocation to his open air museum near Oslo. Photo by Flickr’s bluemeat.

Building in the city of Split, the largest Dalmatian city in Croatia. The city is located on the shores of the Mediterranean, more specifically on the eastern shore of the Adriatic Sea. It’s one of the oldest cities in the area and is traditionally considered just over 1,700 years old. Photo by Andrew Meade.

A Casa do Penedo, or “the House of Stone,” was built between four large boulders found on site in the Fafe mountains of northern Portugal. Although the house may seem rustic, it is modern inside and includes a fireplace and a swimming pool carved out of one of the large rocks.

Bonifacio, Corsica, Italy. Bonifacio, the oldest town in Corsica, is based above a natural harbour on the site of a 9th century citadel. Over the centuries, the sea has eroded the white limestone cliffs giving the buildings on top an over-hanging appearance.
